Last week, Khulani Timber Industries proudly took part in the 2025 Clean Earth School Competition , an inspiring initiative focused on teaching the next generation the importance of protecting our planet.
Our Khulani team had the privilege of spending the day with young learners, sharing how sustainable forestry, renewable energy, and innovation can work together to create a cleaner, greener South Africa.

Our ladies led interactive sessions that showed learners how everyday industries, like timber ,can make a big difference in reducing environmental impact. From renewable energy systems to responsible forest management, the goal was simple: to inspire future environmental champions and show that sustainability starts with awareness.

Our facility operates with a large solar power system, reducing reliance on conventional electricity and cutting down our carbon footprint. By harnessing the sun, we ensure that each treated timber pole we produce supports a cleaner production cycle from start to finish.

A significant portion of our timber is supplied by FSC-certified companies, ensuring that every log we treat and every pole we export comes from forests managed responsibly. The ForestStewardship Council (FSC) certification guarantees that forest-based products are harvested in ways that are socially beneficial, environmentally appropriate, and economically viable , a balance we take pride in maintaining.
Cleaner Logistics, Greener Exports
Khulani uses bio-diesel-powered shipping vessels for timber exports, a practical step towards lowering emissions in our logistics operations. Cleaner transport means cleaner air and a reduced environmental footprint for every shipment we send across Africa and beyond.
Nothing Wasted: Turning Off-Cuts into Energy
In our production yard, every piece of timber has a purpose.
Off-cut timber that would otherwise become waste is repurposed to fuel our boilers, generating steam through a bio-fuel process. This circular approach helps reduce waste, lower dependence on fossil fuels, and improve overall energy efficiency.
